Whats all that about! Video and audio troubleshooting and FAQ. -I downloaded a video from the site and it doesnt reproduce on my computer! -Ok so I dont have the codecs i need, Im screwed right? -You mention "video formats", arent they all the same? -Thats quite a few file formats, which one is the best? and the worst? -Can you tell me how and what do you recommend to playback each file format? -Do I have to register to download videos? No. Its true that we have a register function, but in order to download videos you dont need to register. Registering does give you some aditional features, such as the ability to comment on the videos, send mesages and have your own control panel with many other features. -How do you download videos? Very simple, you have 2 options. One is the quick download option, which allows you to download a file without needing to see the detailed info page of the video, to quick download a video you just need to click on this:
. The other option is to click on this button
once you get to the detailed info page of that video.-Whats with this "Please select the version you want to download", did I break anything? Maybe. No seriously, that page is just for you to select what kind of video you want. Normally we have more than 1 version of the same video, most of the time theres a HQ version-whort for High Quality, then theres the Ipod version which is basically the same video just smaller size, and in the right format to be added to your video ipod. Sometimes we include a third option, when we do this 3rd option is usally the Low quality version. -This video I saw doesnt have an Ipod version! Whats all that about! Sometimes the videos we get arent as good as other(we still want them though), so we think that a ipod version of that video isnt really worth it, having more version means more work and more diskspace for us. If you do want an ipod version of a video we dont offer with ipod version(or any other format) all you need to do is email us and we will be happy to do it for you. -I downloaded a video from the site and it doesnt reproduce on my computer! Sometimes things like this happen, not just with our videos, if you usually download videos you might have come across something similar in the past. In our media page you will find different kinds of video formats and sometimes good old "trusty" Windows Media Player(WMP) wont be able to open corectly. If you are having problems seeing the image of a video or you cant hear any audio its very possible that your computer doesnt have necesarry CODECS to reproduce the video. -Ok so I dont have the codecs i need, Im screwed right? Fear not, fixing the codec issue on your computer is a lot more easier than you think. Having your WMP up to date could be enough, you can downlaod the latest version of WMP here. Also I strongly recommend to install a codec pack, this will add several audio and video codecs to your computer, this way you can be sure that you wont have any future issues with any videos or audios. *A very useful codec pack is the K-lite Codec pack (Windows Only). This pack will allow you to reproduce about 98% of all available formats. I have been using this one for a long long time and I have never experience any problems with it. Its very small(8 Mbs) so you wont have any problems with space. You can download it HERE. *Sometimes its good to have a backup so I will also recommend this other program. Its called VLC Player (Windows & Mac). Its a very powerful video software capable of reproducing almost any sort of available format, one of the best features its that is available for both Macs and Windows operating systems. I also have this one installed in my computer and I have never experienced any problems with it. Again its a very small file (9 Mbs). You can download it from HERE. *PC users should also have a copy of Itunes and/or Quicktime, to handle MOVs and M4V formats. *Mac Users might also try the Windows Media Player componets for Mac. This will help for the many .WMV(windows media video) videos that we have on the media page. This small software(4mbs) will allow the Quicktime Player to reproduce .WMV formats without any problems. Download HERE. -You mention "video formats", arent they all the same? Not really, there are several video format or "video extensions". To make things easier im going to include just the ones we use in the site. The commonly used video formats in KF are the following: AVI, WMV, MP4, MOV, and M4V. Something that wont be explained with much details because it might get confussing; each file format has additional variations, depending on what codec was used to encode it. -Thats quite a few file formats, which one is the best? and the worst? A very common question. There isnt really a "best one" it depends on what do you want the video for. In terms of quality, AVI, MOV, and M4V prove to surpass the rest, but they are also bigger in size; WMV is the one usually with less quality, but its also smaller in size. MP4 most of the time has a great quality, its smaller in size and also smaller in height and width because MP4 is the trademark format for Ipods. -Can you tell me how and what do you recommend to playback each file format?
